Roberto Cavalli is relying on the star power of Giselle Bundchen and photography’s dynamic duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott to sell its fall/winter 2010 campaign.
There’s no doubt that this holy trilogy know how to make beautiful advertisements, and they do it well. This advertisement, which celebrates 40 years of the brand, is dramatic, sexy, and dangerous.
But I’m just not sure whether it works for me. The fashions seem to channel the 1970s, with their clashing prints and velvety finishes. It’s like a glamorous take on boho, but not one that really convinces me. Rather than appearing edgy, I think it just seems confused.
At least we’ll be able to fit plenty into that large leopard print tote, even if those short handles will make it difficult to carry once it’s full!
Giselle, Mert, and Marcus do their best to sell things here, but I’m not sure Roberto Cavalli has lived up to his end of the bargain. What do you think?
