Fall/Winter 2009 Handbag Trends From New York Fashion Week

1 min read

Fashion lovers have been in their element salivating over the catwalk looks from New York Fashion Week. All eyes are on London now, but it’s hard to resist looking back at the week that was. Here are the top five trends to keep in mind when stocking up on new handbags for the cooler seasons, or recycling an old favorite!

Crayola Colors

Bold, saturated colors are right on trend. Think vibrant amethyst, ruby red, or emerald green to brighten up those gloomy gray days. The Tory Burch suede T-Tote captures the look for everyday, while the woven Lauren Merkin Eve clutch glams up jewel tones for a night on the town.

Shimmering Sparkles

We’re all still little girls at heart, dazzled by the glittering charm of sequins and gems. Whether they’re real or impressive imitations, bling will be big next winter. Prezzo’s Palliette Disc and Crochet sling bag overdoses on sequins, while Accessorize’s sequin clutch shows that a little sparkle goes a long way.

Modern Goddesses

The same soft draping and ruching we saw on the runway gowns can also be seen in some of our favorite winter handbags. Ruching is feminine without being sugary, and it can add interest to even the most basic bag. Juicy Couture’s Freestyle shows how the pleats can be relaxed and casual, while Valentino’s Blossom Rossette Satchel dresses things up.

Wild Things

Leopard prints and other feline patterns never really seem to go out of style, but they were back with a vengeance this fashion week. The tiny leopard print Christian Louboutin bow clutch shows what a little cat power can do, while the L.A.M.B Mandeville Satchel makes a bigger animal impression.

Fashionable Fur

We’ll never advocate fur, but there’s no escaping the fact that animal skins and winter go together like peas and carrots. While Fendi and other luxury designers are still enamored with genuine furs, others like Liz Claiborne are embracing those convincing fakes.
