Oversized Handbag Saves Purse Snatching Victim From a Bullet

Oversized handbags aren’t just this season’s hottest fashion accessories. They could also save your life. Just ask Elizabeth Pittenger!

The 22-year-old university student from Tennessee was carrying a large purse as she walked to her car on Thursday evening. Along the way she was confronted by a man demanding her bag, cell phone, and laptop.

She fought the man off but he retaliated, firing at her with a .38 caliber handgun as he retreated. Police chief Buddy Peaster said a calculator, umbrella, and case stashed in the bag stopped the bullet from making contact with Miss Pittenger. Remarkably, she walked away from the incident, shaken but unharmed.

20-year-old Orlando Edmiston has been arrested over the incident. He has been charged with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, and possession of a weapon on school property. And young Elizabeth is probably thanking her lucky stars she took such a large bag to college that day!
