I’m used to seeing models looking spaced out, eccentric, or just plain bored in designer ad campaigns. It’s not a requirement, but it sure does seem to be popular.
The newest Marc Jacobs campaign, however, takes things a step further than a few looks of ennui. These models just appear to be flat out inebriated. I’m actually going to label this campaign as just plain weird.
The tripped-out models in the ads are Olga Sherer, Kamila Filipcikova, Natasa Vojnovic, and Ajuma Nasanyana. In comparison to Miu Miu’s recent stark fall campaign where the bags and clothes mostly outshine the models, I can hardly even separate the Marc Jacobs products from the acid-washed background. I mean, did you even notice the handbag tossed on the couch in the above ad?
If photographer Juergen Teller was going for shocking, I’d say he achieved that with flying colors. Most people have come to expect the unexpected from the quirky Marc Jacobs, but this just might be a new level for the label.
