These days it’s easy to forget Courtney Love was once a lipstick smeared, messy haired, train wreck of a rock star. Now she’s all polished and poised, and it seems we have the Hermes Birkin bag to thank for the transformation.
The former Mrs Kurt Cobain told Women’s Wear Daily that her life changed when she was given the status handbag six months ago.
“I got my first Birkin at age 45. It’s kind of tragic when you think about it,” she said. “Next Birkin I’ll go to Paris and order it myself … It’s sort of like diamonds, though. Do you buy it yourself or do you let someone buy it for you?“
The elegance of the refined handbag has rubbed off on Love, who says her Birkin helps to make her much better behaved.
“Having a Birkin even makes you read every part of the Emily Post etiquette book,” she quipped.
Who knew a handbag could have such an effect? Maybe in Love’s case it’s worth that high price tag after all!
