I haven’t really seen much from Jil Sander, lately. That’s fine, because what she lacks in quantity, she makes up for in quality. Her sharp, minimal designs have a timeless quality but still look unrepentantly modern. This shiny neon market bag is a fabulous example of Jil Sander at her most interesting.
I am completely crazy for the neon leather on the Market bag. I know, I know, neon is so five minutes ago. But it really doesn’t look trendy here. If anything, it looks mod or retro-futuristic. This is no dated 80s throwback; this is a sleek new something you’ve never seen before. I particularly like the pebbled texture of the leather. It gives the bag the faintest sparkle, and reflects light in a beautiful way. It also keeps the Market bag from going over the top. Patent would have been way too obvious.
The Market’s shape is slouchy and unstructured. It’s something like a hobo with a flat bottom. I like the base because it means all your stuff isn’t going to be constantly shifting about, but I also like the overall slouchy, casual look. The contrasting navy handle is the perfect topper for this bag. It adds a little extra interest, and makes the Market look a teeny bit edgier. And again, it isn’t the obvious choice, which would be black.
At $895, Jil Sander’s Market bag isn’t exactly a cheap purchase. But if you have clean, edgy style, it’s one that will serve you well for years to come.
