Georgina Chapman’s Marchesa Label To Launch Handbag Collection For Spring 2010

Marchesa is best known for its red carpet evening wear and Hollywood connections, and as the brand makes its first foray into accessories it seems designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are staying on point.

The twist? They're adamant all bags fit everything you need for a night out: Blackberry, keys, and makeup.

"We were frustrated because we couldn’t find [an evening] bag to fit it all," Craig told WWD. "These are timeless styles, and it was important that they be unique."

They also wanted the bags to possibly open up their customer base.

"Some people don't always have an occasion for a gown," said Chapman. "You could wear these with jeans and a T-shirt."

The line is made up of 28 clutches and cases with details reminiscent of evening gowns, like corsetry and pleating, which is no accident. The duo says they approached the design of the bags the same way they would a dress. Chapman describes draping box clutches with silk as she would a dress form.

The bags will be revealed at a September 16 presentation and will be available in department stores come spring.
