Argentinean brand Carga is doing its bit for the environment with the launch of its new 0W, or Zero Wastage, collection.
Just as its name suggests, the 0W sling bag, shopper, and messenger look to reduce waste on the designer cutting room floor. They’re all crafted from a single rectangular strip of a durable rubbery material called Cordura. This swatch is simple folded, tucked, and sewn into shape. There’s no cutting involved, and thus no wastage at all!
That’s right, there’s absolutely no cutting which includes the raw fabric edges. While most designers see these rough sides as a flaw, Carga embraces the rustic character instead. This helps set the 0W apart from the other eco-friendly alternatives.
Of course, many green fashionistas will be disappointed at the use of leather straps and accents, but I think Carga’s efforts should still be applauded. It’s also worth noting that these leather elements are colored using vegetable dyes, rather than harmful chemical alternatives.
The Carga 0W bags are available from selected boutiques in Argentina, North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Asia, as well as the label’s online store.
