A dispute over a missing handbag came to a fiery head in Britain recently.
Birmingham Crown Court heard that transvestite Ricardo da Silva was attacked in his flat after he misplaced his friend’s Louis Vuitton handbag. His pals Gabryela Passos and Raphael Modesto doused him in petrol and set him alight. With friends like that, who needs enemies?
Mr da Silva claims his friends’ property, which included a Louis Vuitton handbag and laptop computer, was stolen in a burglary. Clearly the attackers disagreed with that story!
Mr da Silva suffered burns to 70% of his body in the attack. He spent more than three months in hospital, and required 16 operations to recover.
Lawyers for Mr da Silva say the attack was a premeditated attempt on their client’s life. The defendants deny the charge of attempted murder. Whether that was their intention or not, I think it’s safe to say this trio isn’t as close as they once were!
