Timmy Woods pays tribute to the late king of pop with this Jackson handbag.
A white glove just like the one Michael Jackson used to wear is laid over this carved black purse. I really like the minimalism of the black wooden body, but I’m not so sure about that glove. It’s just a bit obvious, don’t you think?
It’d be easy to dismiss this purse as opportunistic if Timmy Woods weren’t such a fan of Michael Jackson and his work. She goes to great pains to stress how much she adored MJ’s music and dancing. She insists her tribute purse was “carved with love.” But I just don’t know.
I can’t help wondering whether it’s too soon. Or perhaps it’s just too tacky. I respect artists creating pieces in homage to personalities we’ve lost, but something about this Jackson handbag still feels a little off to me. No doubt that massive $500 price tag is contributing to that uneasy feeling. Is this a fitting acknowledgement of MJ’s achievements, or simply an attempt to cash in on his passing?
