Eco-friendly handbag label Timbuk2 has spearheaded a charity recycling program to benefit (RED), an initiative which aims to help those affected by AIDS in Africa and stop the spread.
Timbuk2 encouraged its fans to donate their old Timbuk2 bags to the project. More than 100 bags were collected during April. Rather than cluttering up a closet, these handbags will be donated to Community Health Workers in Zambia. They’ll put them to good use transporting medical supplies and other essential items to communities that need them.
This bag mountain, assembled by Timbuk2 worker Adam, gives you some idea of the generosity of participating Timbuk2 fans. I’ve always respected Timbuk2 for its ethical handbag philosophy, but now I’ve got a new reason to admire the brand. Congratulations to them for championing this important cause, and of course to everyone who so generously donated their old Timbuk2 bags.
