Olivier Theyskens can’t seem to catch a break right now. After getting booted from the creative director position at Nina Ricci, rumors about him being offered a position at Halston have turned out to be untrue.
It seems that Halston has had some other designers in mind for the director spot. The company has reportedly approached Marios Schwab and Narciso Rodriguez, both well-established designers, with a job offer, but neither accepted.
Despite Halston’s difficulty in filling the creative director post, Theyskens doesn’t even seem to be in the running at the moment. One source summed up the company’s exclusion:
“Olivier [as creative director at Halston] will never, ever happen. It’s no secret that [the brand] is struggling — they need a designer who can sell lots and lots of clothes, not just get great press.”
Ouch. That doesn’t sound promising for the designer. Perhaps the other persistent rumors of Theyskens leading the relaunch of Schiaparelli will work out for him instead.
