Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler are really making a name for themselves, handbag-wise, with their debut line of PS1 bags. Meant to be unisex, most of them feature simple lines and traditional shapes with little embellishment, besides the often shockingly bright color palette, that is.
They strike the perfect balance between structure and slouch with the Large Suede PS1 bag. I love the way the strongly squared off lines are offset by the softness of the suede. Its 16″ x 7″ x 9″ size makes it great not just as a sizable everyday bag, but also as a laptop tote or briefcase.
I also love the winter white color that will take you into spring, but I know plenty of people are wary of suede in general, and white suede in particular. I, personally, like the way that whites look when they get a little banged up, but you might not feel the same way. Or, you might balk at the almost $1,600 price for a bag that will look worn in quite quickly.
There is a flap closure front pocket with an edgy distressed silver clasp that will easily hold all your pens and pencils. The main compartment closes with the trademark PS1 straps, which, as I have said in the past, I am dubious about. On the plus side, I think that straps flapping about makes somewhat more sense on this large suede bag than on a smaller bag. The generous size can accommodate more quirky detail than the smaller versions.
This is a great bag for a laid back, jeans-and-tee-shirts chic kind of girl who isn’t willing to sacrifice style or quality for comfort.
