As someone who is more than a little tired of seeing huge, super slouchy bags on every shoulder, I have been waiting for someone to update the hobo in a way that excites me. Thank you very much, Marni, for making that happen.
First off, I love the color of this bag. It is reminiscent of the cordovan leather that was so popular in the 70’s, which gives the bag a semi-retro, boho vibe, but it also feels new in a sea of metallics and patent leathers. The shape of the bag is crucial, a triangle with gathered edges, instead of the usual half moon hobo.
I love the soft drape of the gorgeous leather, and the way that it is enhanced by the gathers. The top opening cuts off cleanly and abruptly, which is a great contrast to the softness of the rest of the bag. The rectangular silvertone hardware plates that attach the handles add another geometric touch, and I love the simple rolled leather handles, which are in a slightly darker, browner leather.
The real genius of the bag is that the sides extend. This is great both for getting into the bag, and because it gives you more room on the inside. At $1,765 retail, the Triangle Slouchy Hobo is definitely on the high end of fashion bags, but low on the end of investment bags. If you have been waited for an update hobo with baited breath, then it might be a good investment for you.
