She may be the head of an iconic British fashion brand, but Lulu Guinness knows she isn’t always right.
In a recent interview with Stylist magazine, 40-year-old Lulu admitted that she’s become more receptive to the opinions of others as she’s matured.
“When I was younger I tended to be very headstrong – I thought I knew better. As I’ve got older I’ve learnt how invaluable other people’s input is. You can decided not to take the advice, but at least be aware of it.”
Those headstrong days of youth led to some mistakes, but Lulu concedes these errors in judgment helped her learn to be the designer and person she is today.
“It’s equally important to learn from your own mistakes as you go through life because it’s those things that make you an interesting person.”
Lulu has also begun to delegate more work, although the self-confessed control freak struggles to do so!
“It’s been painful but I’ve learnt to delegate. I’ve realized now I can’t manage everything and I get great satisfaction in watching my team develop. The only thing I do insist on is signing off visuals, because the look of my brand is everything.”
