London-based designer Katharine Hamnett is behind a politically-charged new summer collection for eco-friendly retailer Yooxygen. Considering the current BP oil spill clean-up, the “Save the Sea” collection is a timely reminder of the importance of this precious natural resource.
“The sea that we all love is dying due to the impact of human activities such as oil spills, sewage dumping, industrial pollution, and overfishing,” Hamnett said. “It’s important as consumers and voters that we all know the facts, so that we can do what is needed to save it. Take action you can make the difference.“
The 14-piece line of awareness-raising fashions features swimsuits, cover-ups, and beach totes. It’s made from sustainable fabrics including organic cotton, organic silk, and recycled polyester.
A percentage of the sales of the Save the Sea collection benefit West African farmers through the designer’s Fashioning a Better Future initiative, so you can feel even better about indulging in this bold line. All Save the Sea goods are available online at the Yooxygen website.
