Current It girl Joan Smalls fronts Fendi’s new fall/winter 2012 campaign.
Fendi’s own Karl Lagerfeld shot the picturesque advertisements at a vineyard in Chianti, Italy. The idyllic commercials don’t have any real flash about them, but they ensure that striking patchwork satchel, and Smalls herself, shine. By dressing the Puerto Rican born model in a neutral gray ensemble and standing her against a fairly muted landscape, Lagerfeld’s really made that vibrant purse pop. I can barely stop staring at it!
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Lagerfeld rubbing shoulders with the up and coming model. Remember that he handpicked Smalls to star in the spring campaign for his other fashion house, Chanel. No doubt that familiarity’s helped her to seem completely at ease in this commercial campaign.
For Lagerfeld, there was no question about who he’d choose to model for this new Fendi campaign. He made up his mind after watching Smalls strut her stuff in his fall 2012 runway show.
“I said to myself backstage during the show: ‘It’s her and her alone. No other girl — or boy — no child, only her,” he told Women’s Wear Daily.
Are you as impressed as Lagerfeld with Smalls’ work?
