The styling is decidedly vintage, but the environmentally friendly materials used in Millican’s rucksacks and travel bags are very modern.
The classic, functional unisex bags are crafted from sustainable fabrics including weatherproof organic cotton, recycled polyester, and Lakeland wool. The leather accents may not impress many animal rights activists, but at least Millican uses natural vegetable dyes to color the hides.
The brand is named after Millican Dalton, an intriguing man who gave up his career as an insurance clerk to live in a Borrowdale cave. Millican’s bags also pay tribute to other adventurous souls from the brand’s home, the Lakes District. They include this William Gladstone inspired Harry the Gladstone Bag and the Jonathan the Roll Wash, inspired by cutting edge local artist Jonathan Trotman.
Millican bags are available at selected British stores, including Farlows in London and Treeby & Bolton in Cumbria, and online through the Millican website.
