Dolce & Gabbana is giving kids the chance to be just as fashionable as their designer loving parents with the launch of its first range for children.
The fall winter 2012 collection caters for newborns, toddlers, and young boys and girls aged from three to 10 years. Seasonally appropriate tweed joins feminine lace, crochet, polka dots, and fierce animal prints.
I’m also thrilled to see Dolce & Gabbana recreating some of its handbags in miniature, including a pint-sized Miss Sicily purse. It’s perfect for little girls wanting to emulate adult style makers like Madonna, Carey Mulligan, and Eva Herzigova, who all love the regular Miss Sicily.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been designing beautiful garments and accessories for years, but they admitted that applying their style know how to a kids collection has required a steep learning curve. While women are often happy to forgo functionality for glam looks, the children’s line needed to be more practical.
“It’s better to have sleeveless onesies and freedom of movement – kids don’t want to feel too constricted,” they explained to WWD. “This is an homage to Italy and to our tradition. It’s part of our culture and marks one of the most important moments in our lives.“
Dolce & Gabbana’s new children’s collection will hit stores near the end of July. Are you excited to see the famed Italian designers branching out?
