What is it about Louboutin that makes the line so eternally elegant? I think its the sense of understatement. Louboutin bags are never overburdened with embellishment or over designed. This Melides tote is a great example of how the line melds a simple design with an eye-catching print to maximize style.
I am always instantly drawn to stripey things. I don’t think it’s just me either. These particular red and white stripes have a nautical air without hitting you over the head with an anchor. I really dig that Christian Louboutin’s trimmed the bag in black patent. It adds a bit of shine and glamour to totally utilitarian canvas.
The shape of the Melides is that of a traditional tote, but the details are unique. The straps extend all the way down the bag and have an oval ring detail near the bottom that keeps the eye moving. Something I don’t like about the bag is that it doesn’t have a zipper top, just a magnetic snap closure. That makes it easy to get into the bag, but it also makes it easy for things to fall out.
I also don’t care for the $795 price tag. I don’t care how chic it is, it’s still just a canvas tote.
