Bottega Veneta will create a bespoke handbag for Christie’s upcoming Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth. The exclusive purse will sell at the annual private charity event on April 11 at New York’s Rockefeller Center. While this charity soiree is an invitation only party, you can get in your bids for the special Bottega Veneta bag or any of the other items through the Charity Buzz website.
The lucky winner will be able to choose their customized Bottega Veneta’s shape, skin texture, and color. It sounds like a dream come true, but the victor will almost certainly pay a small fortune for the honor. After all, Bottega Veneta bags regularly cost several thousands of dollars, and the charity auction environment is likely to drive the price even higher. It’s currently listed on Charity Buzz for $5000, but I expect that amount to skyrocket leading up to the big night.
Browsing around the site is like an invitation to splurge. Amongst the other items designed to tempt handbag fans are some limited edition reissued Fendi vintage baguettes, and a session with a Lanvin stylist including a complimentary dress, bag, and pair of shoes!
At least it’s all for a good cause. Money raised will be distributed amongst four leading green non-profit organizations: the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Central Park Conservancy, Oceana, and Conservation International.
