When you think of bag snatchers you imagine loutish young thugs, not birds of prey! But one bald eagle got on the wrong side of the law in Austria today when it pilfered a woman’s purse!
The tamed bird swooped down and snatched the brown handbag from the clutches of its 69-year-old owner, landed nearby, and began to rummage through it for food.
“She got the shock of her life,” Lambert Autengruber, a police officer in the Austrian town of Kundl, said. I can only imagine!
Apparently the bird was stalked by buzzards on a hunting expedition days earlier, and had not returned to its master. The feathered thief mistook the ladies purse for the bag her owner keeps stocked with tasty treats.
The eagle was returned to her falconer, but not before it crashed into a white van similar to the one her master drives. It sounds like bad luck follows that bird!
