Kooba has been snapped up by Accessory Network Group, the company that oversees other handbag labels like Nicole Miller, LeSportsac, and Bisou Bisou. The group bought Kooba from Swander Pace Capital, who acquired the label in 2007, for an undisclosed sum.
“We are very excited about adding this iconic luxury handbag brand to our growing handbag business,” said Abe Chehebar, CEO of Accessory Network Group. “We look forward to working closely with Abbe Held, creative director of Kooba, in continuing to expand Kooba in both retail as well as international distribution.“
Chehebar continued that it seems he’s found a “wife” for Ghurka, ANG’s men’s leather goods line. What a cute idea!
It seems like it will be business as usual for Kooba, who will continue to release handbags, shoes, and other leather accessories under the Accessory Network Group banner. Held says she hopes the new ownership will give her company “the opportunity to expand into new markets and categories, creating the full essence of the Kooba brand.”
I’ve never heard of a takeover as amicable as all this, but on paper it sounds like a win-win situation for everyone. Except perhaps Swander Pace, who’s notably stayed mum about the business deal!
