A vintage 1964 black crocodile Christian Dior handbag is amongst American socialite Wallis Simpson's personal items to be auctioned for charity.

Ms Simpson was a colorful figure, famous for her affair with Great Britain's King Edward VIII. The scandalous relationship, which resulted in the king's abdication, was referred to in the Oscar winning film The King's Speech.

The Christian Dior handbag isn't the only item to interest bagistas. There's also a Louis Vuitton vanity case from the sixties and an engraved Cartier necessaire du soir. They'll be sold in London on March 17 by Kerry Taylor Auctioneers. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Dodi International Charitable Foundation, an organization which provides medical care to children and families in need throughout the United States, Britain, France, and Egypt.

You might want to start saving if you've got your heart set on that exotic croc Christian Dior purse. One of Wallis Simpson's Cartier bracelets sold for a record breaking $7 million last November, so clearly interest in this socialite is sky high!
