Singer Siedah Garrett Turns Handbag Designer

Siedah Garrett sang "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" with Michael Jackson in the late 1980s, won a Grammy Award, and then seemed to disappear from the public eye. Well, not quite. The singer/songwriter has actually found a new career as a handbag designer.

Siedah started her bag business when she found herself with one colorful outfit and no purse to match. Rather than scouring the stores she got to work with a crochet hook and yarn. Her homemade handbag received so many compliments that Siedah decided to make more.

And so Siedah Garrett Designs was born. Her collection includes those original hand-crocheted purses alongside lush exotic leather accessories. With her handcrafted designs and luxury leathers, these handbags don't come cheaply. Wallets start from $250 while bags retail from $499.

But Siedah fans will be pleased to know she hasn't turned her back on music altogether. When she's not perfecting her purses, Siedah is penning tunes for the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Kahn, and Aretha Franklin, and performing in the neo-funk outfit Brand New Heavies.
