Pharrell Williams Makes Eco-Friendly Bags and More with Bionic Yarn

Music superstar Pharrell Williams is the new owner, ambassador, and spokesman for Bionic Yarn, a textile company which creates eco-friendly fabrics from used plastic bottles.

Currently Bionic Yarn fabrics are used to create handbags, backpacks, workwear, denim, and home furnishings. The fledgling firm also has partnerships with Cole Haan, Prana, and Pharrell’s own Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

Pharrell has big ideas for the company, hoping to establish it as a major player in the textiles industry.

Our goal is to be the go-to fabric supplier,” he said. “We want to provide quality fabrics that happen to also be sustainable. We want to do everything from high-end luggage, to high-end denim, to university caps and gowns to Parks Department uniforms. It’s a plus that the fabric brings environmentalism to a whole new level.”

I hope Pharrell’s celebrity profile encourages more designers to use his fabrics. I know we all want to buy greener handbags that don’t skimp on style or quality!
