The name Marcela Calvet may be unfamiliar to you, but with this Capucine clutch the Argentinean label shows that it’s more than capable of mixing it with the big boys. This is the kind of purse I’d expect to see from Carlos Falchi or Devi Kroell.
Lizard skin is often seen as a subtler alternative to snake, but here the exotic is a real showstopper. The dark mottled markings really bring the gentle pearl shade alive, making it look sexy and oh so luxurious.
This skin is complemented by shiny gold-gilt solid brass hardware on the structured front flap. That same gold-gilt is used in the rich shoulder chain, which is much more luxurious than any attached to your typical evening purse. If you’d prefer to clutch the Capucine the old fashioned way, this strap need not clutter the purse; it easily detaches.
Not that this clutch will clutter as easily as so many evening bags do. It’s very generously sized, and the practical zippered pocket gives us an easy place for stowing away valuables. The buttery soft Argentine calfskin lining completes the feeling of indulgence.
It’s that feeling that makes me think the $1180 price tag isn’t too bad at all. Sure, it’s not cheap, but I’ve seen those big name designers charging so much more for such opulence.
