Loewe Rereleases Amazona Bags Exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman’s

Spanish label Loewe will boost its push into the American market with an exclusive rerelease of its iconic Amazona bag.

To celebrate the Amazona’s 35th birthday, Bergdorf Goodman’s will sell twenty different models of the handbag. Fabric lined versions will sell for $1800, a little cheaper than the $1950 leather-lined alternative. The prices might seem steep, but when you realize that each one takes 10 to 12 hours to handcraft the cost becomes a little easier to understand.

Loewe’s creative director Stuart Vevers is hopeful that the bag’s timeless appeal will entice American shoppers to embrace the Amazona.

The silhouette is very classic,” he told guests at a dinner he hosted in Manhattan. “I wanted to go back to the essence of what makes this brand special.

The styling is part bowler bag, and part briefcase, so I could imagine the Amazona working as well as an office handbag or a weekend satchel. That versatility also helps to justify those high European prices!
