Lindsay Lohan seems to be spending more time in the fashion world than on the silver screen these days, but I was still surprised to hear that Ungaro has hired the troubled actress. Lindsay will fill the very big shoes of Esteban Cortazar, working alongside new chief designer Estrella Archs as artistic adviser.
Ungaro’s chief executive Mounir Moufarrige says he was looking to bring excitement to the brand, so perhaps hiring the tabloid favorite isn’t so off-the-wall after all.
“Odds are it could work,” Mr. Moufarrige explained. “I think the noise level around Lindsay will be very, very big.”
While there might be buzz, Lindsay will have to come up with the goods if her appointment hopes to have any great impact on the brand. Designing leggings in one thing, but playing a key part in the creative vision of a major fashion house is something else.
Thankfully we won’t have too long to wait before we see whether Mounir Moufarrige’s gamble pays off. Lindsay and Estrella will debut their first collection for Ungaro at Paris Fashion Week in October.
