Former LeSportsac design whiz Julianne Applegate is now going it alone with the launch of her new eco-friendly handbag line.

Julianne recently launched the sustainable bags this week with a fun party in collaboration with Knox ivi. While 50 fans attended the launch, many more around the world stayed in touch with the event through social networking sites like Flickr and Twitter.

While Julianne doesn’t consider herself an internet expert, she hoped the approach would appeal to her younger customer base.

Our general demographic is younger, but older customers like (JulieApple) as well,” she said. “I’m hoping to let Knoxville know we’re here. We are responding to the economy and our goal is present products that are fair and equitable in sustainable design.”

The newest bags use a new sustainable dye alternative known as Airdye. They’re also crafted from a yarn called Repreve which is made from 100% recycled materials.

The handbags are affordably priced between $36 and $198. You can find them at selected boutiques or online at the JulieApple store.
