Yellow Handbag

Yellow HandbagJust how clean is your handbag? According to a recent study conducted by Initial Washroom Solutions, the answer is not very!

A bunch of keys was judged the filthiest item in any handbag, with levels of grime 33 per cent dirtier than what most would consider clean. The zip on a wallet was the next grubbiest element, followed by the handbag zip itself.

Perhaps that’s unsurprising, because less than five per cent of survey respondents said they disinfected their purse regularly, while just three per cent said they sanitized their keys. I certainly don’t take such preventive measures, do you?

Like some 74 per cent of respondents, removing rubbish and old receipts about the extent of my handbag cleaning! As I’m not one of the 52 per cent who keep food in my handbag, I’m happy that I don’t find crumbs, as 34 per cent of respondents do, or discarded candy wrappers, like a whopping 75 per cent!

These statistics are pretty interesting, as I’ve always favored zippered bags for their security over drawstring clasps or magnetic snaps. Perhaps it’s time I rethought that stance for the sake of my health!

Are you surprised to hear how filthy handbags really are?
