It’s not just hippie girls looking for eco-friendly handbags. Now a wave of environmentally conscious jetsetters is looking to do more than carbon offsetting flights.

Responding to the demand, French luggage brand Delsey has designed the Green Days collection, a new range of luggage 45% made from recycled PET bottles.

The travel bags feature a chic black polycarbonate case and while they’re not made completely from recycled products, they are 100% recyclable.

Our products are conceived to use as few raw materials as needed. We use recycled materials. We avoid mixes of components; instead, we will use pure recycled ABS parts. There is no PVC backing. At the end of the life of the suitcase, when it’s dismantled, we can select and put it back in the appropriate recycling chain,” explained Albert Engler, Delsey’s product marketing manager.

Delsey cuts down on the packaging, so more luggage can be transported at any one time. Sea transport is also favored over air to cut down on harmful carbon dioxide emissions.

Delsey’s Green Day bags, part of the brand’s spring/summer 2010 collection, are due to hit selected stores soon.
