The ashes of the late handbag designer Lee Alexander McQueen have finally been laid to rest. They were scattered in Kilmur in Scotland’s Isle of Sky on May 29.

His family told fashion website Womens Wear Daily that the location was one the designer held close to his heart.

Lee cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye,” they explained. “He enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility. It was Lee’s final request that his ashes should be buried at Kilmur.

The daring British designer was found dead in his London apartment after an apparent suicide in February. His right-hand woman Sarah Burton has since been named the new creative director of the company which bears his name.

While Alexander McQueen will be missed, it’s comforting to know that his brand will continue in his honor for years to come, and to know that now he’s found the peace which eluded him towards the end of his life.
