Mulberry Bag

Mulberry BagBritish babes love their luxury bags according to new research from the World Luxury Index. The study, which analyzed the internet browsing habits of fashionistas in eight global markets, showed Brits are the most passionate about designer handbags.

In the United Kingdom luxury handbags showed in 422 searches per 1000 internet users. This was significantly higher than results in the United States, Italy, France, and Japan.

The Brits showed a loyalty to their own fashion industry; Mulberry was searched for twice as much as its nearest competitor, Chanel. However when we look at the global results, Coach came out on top, followed by Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, and Longchamp.

When we look at specifics, nothing beat Hermes’ Birkin bag. The crocodile leather models were particularly popular searches for browsers in the United States, United Kingdom, and France. It beat out other iconic models Chanel 2.55, Louis Vuitton Speedy, and Mulberry Alexa.

This is the first time the World Luxury Index has analysed internet activity. I’d be interested to see how these results correlate to real sales. Internet shopping has made it easier to indulge, but it’s also seen the rise of a kind of digital window shopping. I’m sure we’ve all been guilty of spending time admiring the bags we could never afford!
