Become.com’s Advice on Handbag Styles, Trends, & Purse Shopping Tips

Posted on: Oct 8

Become.com has launched a comprehensive handbag guide, which serves up advice on latest bag trends, purse styles, and even handbag health.

It can be tough to stay abreast of the latest fashions, but this guide helps to break down the fads. It says shoulder bags follow the maxim that bigger is better, but warns against buying one that's too large for your body type. It also helps us find the right hobo, encouraging us to snap up a small black slouch bag for parties and a larger colorful hobo for day-to-day toting.

The guide speaks in easy-to-understand language, which will suit beginner bagistas down to the ground. Serious fashion fans may find the articles a little too basic for their tastes, particularly the pieces discussing the benefits of clutch bags and messengers. But they do provide a more accessible alternative to a glossy fashion mag.

I also appreciate the lack of brand name references. So many style guides feel like advertorials, encouraging us to buy the latest and most expensive name brand bag to fit in. It's refreshing to find an article which merely describes the features to look for, rather than pointing us to specific high-end items.

It may not suit every fashion fan, but if you're trying to get a handle on your personal style Become.com's Handbag Tip Center is worth a look.

Become.com is a spam site – and the picture you used on this ‘article’ is showing a woman picking out a bag from a counterfeit seller in Chinatown. Does NOT lend your site credibility.

@anonymous – Become.com is a shopping comparison site and gets about 5 million visitors a month.

You are right about the picture, we felt it was a good fit as it shows a real shopping environment and a purchasing decision.

We know it has replica bags in it, the brown Coach bag is almost a symbol for replica bags, we’ve all seen that one.

Unlike other publishers which tend to avoid the existence of counterfeit, replica and designer inspired bags, or only give them negative press for whatever reason, we accept them as being part of the handbag industry, they are very common and many people buy them.

That’s not to say I necessarily condone the the sale of fake bags as genuine, or other counterfeiting practices, but a lot of people buy designer inspired and replica bags and are fully aware of it.

Like it or not, it is a big part of the handbag industry, and REAL people see and buy them everyday. We don’t try and ignore this, we remain impartial, and we don’t brush it under the carpet.

So we see no problem with using that picture as it represents a REAL shopping experience, and we aim to be real.
