Angelina Jolie Earns Respect from PETA for Animal Friendly Handbag Stance

Angelina Jolie has impressed PETA by thoroughly investigating the practices of Akris before purchasing one of the label’s ecru horsehair handbags.

Horsehair bags are often made using hair from horses killed violently in slaughterhouses, so the Hollywood actress and humanitarian wanted to ensure she would not support this practice.

However, Akris designer Albert Kriemler assured her his label takes a much more animal-friendly approach. Its bags are made from the tails of horses, which “get haircuts just like we do.”

Angelina has proved time and time again to be a kind of person – most recently when she insisted that the fur coat that she wore in Salt be faux,” a PETA rep told Hollywoodlife.com.

I’m sure we’d all love to support a fashion label that puts animals first, but sadly most of us don’t have Angelina’s disposable income. Her gorgeous Akris bag retails for a little less than $5000.
