Yves Saint Laurent is one of the most long-standing French fashion houses. It’s definitely had its ups and downs over the years, but for the most part, the YSL name has remained relatively synonymous with chic glamor. This Y cork and leather clutch is a great example of the line’s signature combination of innovation and traditionalism.
I’ve never seen cork used in this way before, and honestly, I’m totally blown away by it. It’s not just that the label chose such an extraordinarily unique material; it’s also that it’s been treated with a beautiful gold finish that adds subtle sparkle to the earthy look. The patent leather accents contrast with the cork gorgeously, and give a bit of high-low, shiny-matte contrast that is perfectly balanced.
The shape of the cork isn’t particularly earth-shattering, but the rest of the design is so innovative that it really doesn’t need to be. The Y-shaped flap front creates an interesting pattern against the cork and the tuck-in clasp is a nice smooth addition to the look.
Honestly, I love this bag so much that I wouldn’t really care how much it cost, but I do think that $550 is remarkably reasonable.
