See By Chloe is usually one of my favorite lower priced designer lines, but not this season. The Chloe collection has been looking great, but See seems to be suffering from a serious lack of creativity. This Carmen tweed satchel is uninspiring and just plain boring.
Houndstooth is kind of a problem right now. It’s not really that problematic in and of itself, but because it was absolutely everywhere a few seasons ago it looks really dated now. Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of the print anyways. It looks like plaid’s boring little brother.
I have no idea what’s going on with the shape of the Carmen. It seems like it was supposed to look tailored, but the flimsy fabric makes it slouchy in a really unattractive way. The top handle is too small, the shoulder strap is too thin, and the clasp looks cheap. That may seem a little harsh, but I don’t think there’s really any excuse for bad design.
Especially when it comes at such a high price. $495? You’ve got to be kidding me.
