Rafe updates the tote bag for the 21st century with the Jordana.
Once upon a time, totes were simple, boxy creatures. The Jordana is a world away from this kind of bag, with tight pleats, a buckled belt, and eye-popping gold stitching creating volume and drama. There’s so much going on here, but in deep brown-purple I think Rafe manages to rein his accents in.
The leather sadly lets this tote down though. While it is an authentic cowhide, it’s quite stiff. That means the pleats don’t sit as softly as they should, and the finish isn’t as luxurious. I expect something a bit plusher for $475, and I’m probably not alone.
While the exterior isn’t quite as opulent as I’d like, the interior is luxuriously large. The jacquard lining and leather trimmed pockets work together to survive everyday punishment. The Jordana has also got a lovely long handle, so we can just grab it and go in the morning and comfortably carry it all day long.
The Jordana doesn’t quite deliver what I expect in a $500 bag, but it’s still got enough style and substance to tempt me.
