Nahui Ollin adds a new twist to the old woven bag look with this contrasting bold color closure.
Using a Mayan technique, we are all familiar with Nahui Ollin’s style, weaving pretty contrasting patterns with everyday materials. This particular purse is best in the black and white chequered pattern, where the bold red flap stands in dramatic and effective contrast.
Subtle, this bag ain’t. Inside, that bold palette becomes even bolder, as the materials grower brighter and more vibrant. Personally I always wish Nahui Ollin’s bags had a different lining (red would have been nice), and this bag just shows how chaotic her patterns can get.
That red flap, however, is a lovely addition, breaking up the pattern and making this a much more sophisticated, work-friendly purse than her usual pieces. It also adds a useful functionality, especially as it clips neatly closed. The handle too continues this coordinated theme, making this both useful for slinging over your shoulder, and pretty.
All in all this is a bold and sometimes over-the-top purse, with some nice touches but a certain lack of luxury, and pockets!
