I’ve written a lot about Miu Miu’s matelasse bags in the past few months. With few exceptions, they have been the epitome of classic chic, and a shining beacon for the line. This linen version is one of the most interesting interpretations of the style that I’ve seen so far.
I’ve never seen matelasse done in linen, and I am really really excited about it. The natural variations in the fabric’s texture create an artfully uneven pattern. Usually, I could do without fringing, but here it really enhances the weathered, but beautiful look. The gold hardware adds a little bit of refinement to the soft, casual style.
This matelasse bag is larger than most of the rest of the line, but because of the lightweight weave, it will never weigh you down. The braided hand strap will be great for toting around most of the time, but there’s also a detachable shoulder strap in case it gets uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the design of the shoulder strap looks a little bit out of place on the rest of the bag, but since it’s removable, it’s not a dealbreaker, especially when you take into consideration the reasonable $1,395 price tag.
