I should admit right off the bag that Michael Kors is not one of my favorite designers. I find that, most of the time, his designs are watered-down versions of the trends, and not in a classic sort of way. Also, I’m not always sure about the quality of his heavily mass-produced pieces. Which is why I was surprised by my almost entirely positive reaction to this Hadley tote.
First of all, the color of this bag is spectacular. It just isn’t your everyday mousy brown. It has a richly burnished look that makes me think of words like russet. Whatever you call this color, it’s super versatile and will work with a lot of different wardrobe choices.
The slouchy shape of the bag is also pretty fabulous. Instead of the slouchiness making the Hadley look sloppy, it adds a sort of classy charm to the bag. The drawstring-style top is also interesting and makes the Hadley a little more secure and practical than your average tote.
The choice of the gold belt makes me waver a little. It’s a very bright, yellow gold, which looks nice against the color of the leather, but also looks ever so slightly cheap or cheesy. This is my whole problem with Michael Kors, it seems like some of the details just aren’t thought out as much as they should be.
Regardless, the Hadley is very cute even if it somewhat absurdly priced at $1,195.
