Marc by Marc Jacobs makes young, edgy clothes that are fashion forward and mostly affordable. He’s attracted a loyal, nay, worshipful following among downtown types that is quickly spreading across the world. And, let’s be honest, he deserves it, because bags like this are a recessionista’s dream come true.
The lipstick red leather is totally glamazon. It will add a fabulous punch of color to this fall’s black on grey on black styles, and its sleek design makes it super versatile. It would work as a great everyday bag for a girl with a lot of sass, or add that extra je ne sais quoi to your out-on-the-town ensemble.
Looking beyond the cherry red leather, which, let’s be honest, is hard to do, the design of the bag itself is interesting and innovative. The smoothed out patchworky design is made using colorblock technique, but using only one color. The result is a bag that looks soft and folded.
The muted gold tone hardware was a really good choice to accent the bag as it doesn’t compete with the volume of the color. The generous size is right in line with current trends, but it’s not big enough to be unwieldy. The only reservation I have is about the straps. With only a 6″ drop, most women won’t be able to carry the Salma over their shoulder comfortably, which is kind of a problem in a bag this big.
Ultimately, the $420 price tag is what totally wins me over. It’s almost too good to be true for a statement bag with a designer label.
