I’ve always admired Mad by Designs quirky accessories made with unusual materials like horn, mother of pearl, and eco-friendly bamboo. So I was a bit surprised to see this tote come from the same label.
Unlike so many of Mad by Designs accessories, this is a purse which looks like it wants to fit in. So many designers are embellishing their patent bags with faux croc embossing, so I inevitably find myself comparing this one to the rest. No matter the quality of the synthetic, the glossy finish just makes it look a bit cheap.
Perhaps the trim is also getting me offside. The spotted leopard print seems really tacky, especially when added to the ruby red bag. Mad by Designs almost gets away with it on the black tote, but not quite. It’s just too much.
It’s a shame, because this is probably one of Mad by Designs most practical accessories. While you have to be careful with the fragile horn and mother of pearl bags, you can feel free to load this one up. The straps can certainly handle the weight, and the generously sized interior with its zip and slip pockets almost encourages overstuffing.
That practical nature might make this tote worth the $32.95 that Mad by Design asks, especially if you love your fashion accessories flamboyant.
