I associate Lanvin with whimsical, feminine accessories accented with feathers and fluff. So I was surprised to see the French brand playing it so straight with the Legion PM Bag.
This has none of the stuff of regular Lanvin bags; there’s no flash or frippery at all. That sensible approach might turn a few loyal Lanvin fans off, but I don’t think it’s an altogether bad move. It might encourage more straight-laced fashion fans to take another look at the brand, while providing its already loyal customer base with a more practical alternative for business meetings.
It might not be as flashy as so many of Lanvin’s accessories, but it’s not without its own charm. I quite like the combination of black leather and brown trim, and the antique looking studs on either end of the flap.
The handle is short, but we can always attach the longer shoulder strap for another carrying option. I just wish this optional strap was as stylish as the original one. The webbed seatbelt-like material is durable, but it just doesn’t match the sophistication of the rest of the bag.
This is Lanvin’s only misstep as far as I can see, although many bagistas may feel Lanvin hasn’t offered enough originality to justify the rather significant $1285 price tag.
