Gwen Stefani’s fledgling line L.A.M.B. has quickly become know for its quirky, offbeat takes on both retro and modern designs. The line’s liberal use of color combined with trendy detailing make their offerings stand out in a crowd.
This bag is so eye-catching that I literally ran across Chapel Street in New Haven to get a better look at it. I had already pegged it for L.A.M.B., and on closer inspection, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The best thing about this clutch is the way it combines totally 80’s elements like neon patent leather and rouching with fine details like the tan leather trim. It makes for an extremely of-the-moment bag with a distinctive touch of class.
I love the way the soft pouch shape of the clutch is offset by more structural components, like the yellow side tabs. The full zipper top opens onto a spacious 15″ x 7″ x 3″ compartment, which, I think in combination with the color palette makes it a bag that can go from day to night with little difficulty. The tan studded fob at the front of the clutch and the silver stud straps add a punk edge to this beautifully off-kilter accessory.
In the past, I have felt a little dubious about the return to neon we have seen in the past few seasons, as it so frequently comes off as cheap and played out, but if there’s more of this out there, I might just change my mind.
