I have a notoriously conflicted relationship to Judith Leiber’s designs. Her overembellished aesthetic doesn’t appeal to me much, plus her prices are exorbitant. But every now and then she puts out a classic, beautiful design that I find irresistible. This is one of those.
The sleek black satin fabric on this clutch has a matte finish with a slight sheen. There’s nothing too shiny to compete with the blingy crystal embellishment. The design on the front flap is definitively art deco inspired, made of a combination of mostly rectangular white crystals. It’s a little bit retro, but a lot wearable.
The simple flap front design is classic enough to carry to any cocktail dress worthy occasion. There’s also a slim elegant chain shoulder strap, in case you feel like wearing the bag a little more casually. Not that there’s anything truly casual about the design; it has high class written all over it.
$1,395 is a lot to pay for the evening bag, but very reasonable for something from Leiber’s collection, particularly for something as simple and breathtaking as this.
