Fossil seems to have taken inspiration from the world of Hollywood when it created the Hathaway shopper. But just like the decision to hand Anne Hathaway the Oscars’ co-hosting job, this is one shopper that appeared better on paper.
I assume that Fossil decided to treat its leather with glaze to add a little Hollywood shine. It’s a smart idea, but the execution lets it down. That shine sadly makes the leather appear like a cheap synthetic, and it deserves better.
So does the design frankly, because in a different material I think I could really get behind it. I love the oversized grommets that the handles thread through, and the way the side pockets make the shape seem more modern. This marine blue shade is also dreamy, and I don’t mind the other color options either.
The design is also smart. The Hathaway’s dimensions are generous, but as its slender it doesn’t look enormous. Its plainweave lining seems ready to take on anything, and the its interior pocket are a great complement to those outside.
Perhaps for the affordable $98 you won’t mind that this shopper looks cheaper than its materials should. Sadly though all I see is wasted potential.
