Emilio Pucci Cancello Nylon Bag | Fabulous Bright Retro Print Carryall

1 min read

Emilio Pucci’s abstract geometric prints totally ruled the 1950’s. And besides their following of avid loyalists, the prints seem to enjoy a major redux every five years or so. And why not, really? The ubiquity of the Pucci print scarf is so retro-modern it has become postmodern.

I know the bright colors and bold shapes aren’t for everyone, but personally, I love a Pucci print. Despite the garish patterns, there’s something a little classy about Pucci, and I love that contradiction.

Okay, well, idol worship aside, I think this Cancello bag is terrific. It has this great open shape that is unusual and intriguing. With its 14″ x 14″ x 7″ size, you could fit a day’s worth of groceries in there, with comfort and style. That is if you happen to be the kind of person who slugs their loaves and beer around in a $675 tote, of course. Usually I balk at high-piced luxury goods in fabrics like nylon, but buying a Pucci is more like buying a pop art print than buying a garment, so I’m going to let the cost slide.

The open top closes with a magnetic snap closure, which gives you slightly more security than your average tote. But I still wouldn’t count on it as an everyday bag. It lacks the organizational features most of us look for in a handbag, like a cell phone pocket. It also has such a casual vibe that it would look really out of place anywhere besides beachside, on a yacht, or on the arm of a very chic ingenue running her daily errands. The leather handles make it durable enough, though, for any one of those activities.

All in all, I really like this tote. The Cancello print is spectacular, and the colors are really groovy. If you’re heavy into the resortwear circuit, this is a fabulous tote to take with you.
