The Belleville is Be & D’s most popular hobo bag. The leather version is a classic, but to really stand out from the crowd this summer I prefer this fun yellow eelskin variety.
Traditionalists may want to steer clear of this sunny fabric, but I find it irresistible. A more conservative black or chocolate brown would also downplay the smooth texture of the eel skin. Here it shines, with only a smattering of silver studs near the handles to distract us.
The dual straps look short, but the Belleville’s scooped top makes them more practical than you might think. With a shoulder drop of 10 inches, you don’t have to look like a stick to sling this hobo over your shoulder.
The zip and slip pockets work double time in this oversized interior space. The attached key ring is a handy addition, ensuring you won’t need to fumble around when you want to start your car.
Of course this exotic leather purse doesn’t come cheap. But with the traditional calfskin version already clocking in over the $1000 mark, the extra couple of hundred seems worth saving for a little originality.
